Computer has no sound
If you suddenly find that you have no sound from your computer, then check the following items:
- Make sure that the speaker icon in the taskbar on the bottom right corner of your screen, does not have a cross through it
- Make sure that the speakers are not on mute at 0% volume. I suggest to drag the volume slider to 50%
- Windows update can install a driver that conflicts with the motherboard sound chip. I find that Realtek drivers cause problems with my Intel sound so in this case I have to disable the Realtek driver and uninstall it and make sure that it doesn’t get reinstalled
- Make sure that the speakers are plugged in correctly in to your computer. The socket for the speaker is usuallly colored Green. If you have pets make sure that they haven’t chewed the cables
- If a Youtube video is not playing sound, then check that the individual speaker on the tab at the top of your browser has not been muted. YouTube also has a volume control slider on the bottom left of the video that you watching
- Make sure that the speakers have been selected as the audio device in the programme that you are using at the time. You may have set the app to use plugged-in headphones for example
- Finally if all else fails, try to RESTART your computer. I don’t mean to shut down your computer but choose to RESTART it. Believe it or not, shutting down your computer does not fully reboot it
