Windows 10 support extension options

Windows 10 support extension options

As you are probably aware, the end of support for Windows 10 happens on October 14th of this year. If your computer can upgrade to Windows 11, then I urge you to do this before then.
If your computer is too old, then you have a decision to make.
Using an unsupported Operating System, means no more security updates for the operating system which is a dangerous place to be. considering that the most recent Microsoft update had patched almost eighty vulnerabilities!
Bowing to consumer pressure, Microsoft has handed out an olive branch to give a free one year extension to this date.
There are three ways to avail yourself of this opportunity:

One way is to start allowing your computer to back up your files to Microsoft Onedrive. If you do this, beware of allowing OneDrive to back up your Document folder. If you are using Microsoft Outlook to download POP emails that generate a “pst” file in the Outlook folder, then OneDrive will cause a conflict and you will get an error message to say that the pst file cannot be opened. So let Onedrive back up all folders EXCEPT for your Documents folder. If you do want OneDrive to back up your Documents folder and you experience the pst error then please follow these Comp-U-Train instructions to resolve the issue

The second way is to redeem one thousand Microsoft points.
To see how many points that you have earned over the years, go to this website and log in with your Microsoft account credentials.

The third way is to pay Microsoft USD30 to extend the expiration for a year for each computer running Windows 10; or buy a new computer that can run Windows 11. The choice is yours.

Either way you will need to check the Microsoft update page on your computer, closer to the time and look for the “enrol” link as shown in my screen shot above.
Click the link that is arrowed to enrol in the redemption process.
