One of the files containing the system’s Registry data had to be recovered by use of log or alternate copy. The recovery was successful
We had a customer call us about her laptop that had been ravaged by a virus. It had left certain important features of her Windows 7 Operating System, such as the “System Restore” function being inoperable.
System Restore is a “safety net” which can get you out of a sticky situation should the need arise. It is a fantastic tool that allows you to go back in time and undo any action that you had previously undertaken. Read more about how to use your computer’s System Restore function here.
A second problem was that whenever the laptop was booted up, the pop-up error window shown above appeared. This worrying message can be caused for a few reasons.
Rather than reinstalling the Operating System which can present its own challenges, I use and highly recommend an excellent free tool called Windows Repair.
The tool is free to use, but Comp-U-Train would like to request that you make a donation to the programme writer should the tool repair your computer.
This tool repaired the System Restore problem but unfortunately the popup was still present.
The first step of troubleshooting this pop-up message is to create a new user profile. If the message does not appear when logged into the new profile, then this shows that the problem is with the user registry. To fix this, follow the excellent instructions written by forum.
and detailed in post 7 of thisUnfortunately for our customer, the pop-up message appeared irrespective of the user that was logged in. Therefore, the problem was in the computer’s system registry. To fix a problem in the registry, we use and highly recommend the excellent free tool called “NTREGOPT“.
The tool is free to use, but Comp-U-Train would like to request that you make a donation to the programme writer should the tool repair your computer.
Comp-U-Train would like to advise that before attempting any repair, that you make a full backup copy of the computer registry. Both tools provide a method of accomplishing this protective action.
After running the tool, the pop-up error messaged disappeared.
I had tried the free programme called “ccleaner” but it did not fix either problem.
Needless to say, we now have a very happy customer!
